MRI

WHAT IS AN MRI SCAN?
The MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan always reminds us of the big machine with a dark hole wherein one must pass through, lying on a table, wondering where the noises are coming from and what is happening to the body. MRI is a non-invasive (no operation) imaging technology which produces some beautiful three-dimensional anatomical images. Unlike an X- ray or CT scan there are no damaging radiations in an MRI scan, and thus it is not harmful to the body. Magnetic and radio waves are used to generate these MRI scans.

ADVANTAGES OF AN MRI SCAN:
MRI has some advantages over regular X-rays and CT scans because it can reveal the inner working of the human body in much better detail. An old-fashioned MRI scanning involves lying in a small torpedo tube about 70 cm long for a half an hour or 25 minutes. It can be quite a scary experience, due to which many of the patients every day in the hospital for MRI scan will ask to get out of the MRI machine before doctors have even had time to take their scan. In addition to that, the device produces loud clicking and rotating sounds making the experience more disorienting and unpleasant

It is that in the conventional closed MRI scanners, about 10% of the referred patients in hospitals are unable to receive the scan mainly because of anxiety and claustrophobia. Some other researchers have shown that one in six patients suffer from these panic attacks and claustrophobia in the MRI machines. The scanner at the Bromsgrove Private clinic is a technologically advanced device which is OPEN and does not involve lying in a closed tunnel. These advantages of a detailed report within a short span of time and no harmful side effects have made MRI scans an important part of medical diagnosis.

THE DANGERS:
The magnetic field in an MRI scanner attracts metal objects; hence MRI scans are not suitable for patients with metal implant іn thеіr bоdу It includes patients with metal rоdѕ and pins in thеіr bоnеѕ, расеmаkеr, metal prosthetic valves in the heart or a metallic body in their ear or eye. Before the scan, patients are strictly advised to remove all the metal accessories from their body and clothing.

Even though MRI scan costs аrе a bit on hіghеr side, thеrе effectiveness and accuracy in diagnosis make this cost worthwhile. Early diagnosis through MRI scan has saved several livelihood and lives. After all, no cost is greater than your life!

Upright Open MRI Scanner
There are many advantages of the open MRI systems over the traditional closed MRI tunnel systems. They help to keep the patients calm and deliver the stress-free experience, and that is because facing the open air in front of them significantly decreases the chances of claustrophobic related symptoms in patients. Furthermore, it’s also less intimidating for children because in open MRI scanners they can see their parents and be at ease throughout the scanning process. Scientists have also developed another form of open MRI scanners usually known as the upright MRI scanners which are a more expensive than the regular open MRI scanners but are more beneficial in some cases.

If you wish to have your MRI investigations without being uncomfortable due to the lack of space, an open MRI scanner would be an excellent option for you. It is suitable for everyone but particularly suitable for the following groups.
